The exhibition centers on Yu’s mastery of running and cursive scripts, which reflect both his technical brilliance and his deep connection to Chinese cultural and intellectual traditions. Through his work, Yu Youren not only preserved the artistic legacy of earlier dynasties but also introduced innovations that would shape modern Chinese calligraphy. His pieces on display illustrate the fluidity, strength, and refinement that characterize his style, especially his "spirit of metal and stone," which imbues his work with a sense of integrity and permanence. This exhibition is organized by Curatorial Assistant Nan Zhong, with administrative support from Program Administrative Specialist Charisma Oparaugo, and design and installation led by Preparator Korey Richardson. Additional contributions by Curatorial Assistant Patricia Ortega-Miranda and Director Taras W Matla. Major support for this presentation is provided by the Yu Youren Operating Fund. This exhibition is in association with University of Maryland's Arts for All initiative. About Our Up Close SeriesThe Up Close series offers visitors a chance to connect with permanent collection or significant loaned pieces in a more personal and engaged way.
