Summer Notice
Between July 10 - September 16, the Art Gallery will be open by appointment or based on staff availability only. This means visitors are encouraged to schedule their visit in advance to ensure access, as regular public hours may be limited due to summer staffing. To make an appointment or inquire about availability, please email artgallery@umd.edu.
Accessibility
The University of Maryland Art Gallery, located in the Parren J. Mitchell Art-Sociology Building, is accessible to all visitors in accordance with ADA guidelines. Designated accessible parking spaces are available directly behind the building for vehicles displaying state-issued license plates, placard, and/or hanging permit. The building features ramped entrances, automatic doors, and elevator access to ensure full accessibility.
Admission
Admission is always free for everyone. If you can swing it, a suggested donation of $10 goes a long way in supporting our exhibitions and offerings.

The Art Gallery is situated within the Capital Beltway (I-495), 9 miles east from downtown Washington, D.C. and 32 miles south from downtown Baltimore, MD. We're located next to Tawes Hall on the western end of the UMD campus, where Mowatt Lane, Campus Drive, and Alumni Drive converge. The museum address is:

Parking
Several visitor parking options are available when visiting the Art Gallery. During regular operating hours, Mowatt Lane Garage is the closest option. Visitors must park on the uppermost level of the garage and may pay with cash, credit card, or via the ParkMobile app. After 4:00 p.m., parking is free of charge in Lots 1b and JJ3, located where Mowatt Lane, Campus Drive, and Alumni Drive converge. By Metro
Take the Green Line to College Park–University of Maryland Station. From there, hop on the UMD Shuttle #104 to the Regents Drive Garage stop. The Art Gallery is just a 2–3 minute walk north to the Parren J. Mitchell Art-Sociology Building. For additional transit details via rail or bus, visit WMATA's Trip Planner.
Free Wi-Fi
Enjoy free wireless internet access throughout the UMD campus. Look for "umd-guest" in the settings of your personal wireless device.
Photography Policy
Visitors are welcome and encouraged to take personal photos using handheld smart devices (such as iPhones, iPads, and similar) while exploring our galleries—unless otherwise noted. We define personal photography as casual, non-commercial image-taking intended for personal use.
However, commercial or professional photography—including the use of cameras with detachable lenses, lighting equipment, or staged setups such as engagement photos or group portraits—is not permitted without prior written approval from the Art Gallery. This policy helps ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all visitors and protects the artworks on display.
To further support this goal, the use of flash, tripods, monopods, and selfie sticks is strictly prohibited.

Visitor Conduct
The Art Gallery is committed to maintaining a safe, respectful environment for all staff, students, faculty, and visitors, free from abuse, harassment, and any form of threatening or inappropriate behavior. We reserve the right to ask individuals who do not adhere to these standards to leave. In cases of severe misconduct, the University of Maryland Police Department (UMPD) may be called to ensure the safety and well-being of everyone in our space.
